Bit of backstory:
A while back, I was working in an Independent game store, it was a fairly slow day.
A woman came in, she looked to be in her mid-late 30’s. She came up to the counter and talked to my co-worker, Derpina. She pointed to the poster of Little Big Planet behind the counter(I said it was a while ago) and asked Derpina “Can you get me a copy of that game for the XBOX 360? My son wants it for his birthday.”
Derpina calmly told her that Little Big Planet wasn’t available for the xbox 360, as it was a PS3 only title. The woman did not take this lightly. “What do you know about games?! You’re just a girl! You don’t know anything about games!” She was silent for about 5 seconds, just staring at Derpina as if she was trying to make her head explode.
She pointed to me, “YOU! Can YOU, someone who looks like he plays games,”(I guess being 20 with a lip ring and blue hair makes me automatically a gamer, right?), “Can YOU, get me that game on the xbox 360?”
I calmly told her that, as my co-worker had said, the title was unavailable on the xbox 360, that no copies were ever made for the 360.
“That is bullshit! I demand to speak to your manager right now, young man!” What happened next will be engraved in my memory for life.
Without a word, I pointed to my right, to Derpina, who was trying to hold back laughter. The woman was speechless! Derpina told her that, she in fact was a gamer, and that the game doesn’t exist for the 360, and that we don’t normally sell to idiots.
The woman left without another word with her tail between her legs. Probably my proudest moment in retail, also one of my worst customer experiences.
